Scorpion Diesel announces the launch of the All-New Engine Shutdown Timer. This drastically revised product sports features NOT available elsewhere on any turbodiesel cooldown timer at a price you won't believe. A cool-down timer is a must have for your late model turbo-diesel engine. Shutting down too soon can cause early turbo bearing wear, contribute to coking in the turbo and shorten the life of an expensive component to replace. The Scorpion Diesel microEST is inexpensive insurance against this, and is feature packed to offer run-time features not available on a pyrometer driven solution.
You won't need a pyrometer, or to spend $250 or more to get a truly easy cool-down solution.You also don't need to arm the unit each time you leave the truck. The Microprocessor monitors the ignition circuit at an overkill speed of 1 million times per second looking for your key to go to the off position. Once that event has occured, the Shutdown Timer goes to work. You set the time, it does the rest. Standard run time of 0-5 minutes. During the winter, 2-3 minutes is more than sufficient for proper cooldown, and during the summer 4-5 minutes is the most you'd need. Need to stop at the convenience store to grab a coffee or slurpee? Set the microEST to convenience mode 1 hour to work with. Once you key back on it reverts to basic timer mode. The built in anti-theft will kill the truck the minute the brake is depressed. Why Cool Down?
Extended idle run-time after driving your vehicle allows the oil in the turbo bearings and galleries to properly cool-down and drain down. This prevents "coking" of turbo bearings. Some competitors offer an EGT based solution. While this is a convenient reference point it really has nothing to do with the proper temperature to shut down to care for your turbo. Our unit is adjustable from 0-5 minutes in 1 minute intervals, giving you all the flexibility you need.
